Readings in the Tradition
Readings in the Tradition:
An Evening of Conversation
Readings in the Tradition are monthly gatherings devoted to careful reading and discussion of texts from the Catholic theological and spiritual tradition.
Each 75-minute session centers on selected passages that are read slowly and attentively, with explanation, context, and ample time for questions. The emphasis is on understanding what the authors actually say, how they argue, and the distinctions they make—especially in texts that are dense, frequently misunderstood, or often quoted without sufficient clarification.
What These Evenings Are — and Are Not
These evenings are particularly suited to traditional theological and spiritual works—especially Thomistic and classical authors—where patient reading and guided conversation help illuminate meaning that is easily missed when reading alone.
Readings in the Tradition are not lectures, formal courses, or retreats. They are structured conversations anchored in the text itself, designed to foster clear understanding, sound judgment, and greater familiarity with the language and reasoning of the Catholic tradition.
